I guess I’m a bad Democrat. Or a fake Democrat. Or a Democrat that doesn’t simply bow and spread when called to do so. I require reasons to vote for a candidate. Shitty of me, but it’s how I operate. Yeah, it marginally influences my actions based on whether there’s an (R) or (D) next to the name of a candidate, but only marginally. The last decade has proven that most people with an (R) should be wearing rubber pants in a secure room far from society, so it’s a pretty easy call. The issue I’m having is with the people who have a (D) next to their name. Which is why I’m writing this...whatever the fuck it is.
Here’s what I would like from Camp Hill- tell me why I should vote for your candidate. Give me specific policy positions. Talk to me about your candidate’s plan for climate change. Let me know how she plans to deal with an obstructionist GOP house and senate without compromising everything that makes a Democratic program Democratic. I don’t want to hear a fucking word about inevitable. I don’t want to hear a fucking word about race or gender. I don’t want to hear a fucking word about “her turn”. I want to be convinced that your candidate is better than my candidate based on merit and policy positions.
I have honestly never seen this argument put forth. I have seen many people sneer, take cheap shots, underestimate Bernie Sanders, and gloat over tiny victories that should have been landslides. The simple fact remains that in the only state that has had an up/down vote, Sanders crushed Clinton by 22 points.
Let’s be real for a moment: if your only argument for supporting Sec. Clinton is the Supreme Court, you have a weak ass argument. If you think she’d get anything accomplished while President that Sanders couldn’t, it’s because it would be so watered-down and toothless as to have no impact whatsoever. The GOP is consistent on many things, and hating anyone with the last name Clinton is on the top of that fucking list. Point to one fucking thing that says “this legislation supports the Democratic Party’s platform” with the name Clinton attached to it.
I don’t want hackneyed talking points that Hillary Clinton has co-opted from Sanders. His platform is now her platform. We all knew that was going to happen, and we all know it’s cynical bullshit. I want, from Clinton supporters, a concrete reason to vote for this candidate. Thus far, I’ve never been given one.
Make you case, friends and neighbors.
